We love this question. There are four key elements that make us different:
USDA Organic: In an unregulated industry, it's more important than ever to instill trust with consumers, especially with respect to their health. We've insisted since the beginning to partner with farms, processors, and co-manufactures who follow strict USDA guidelines.
Vapor extraction: We extract our certified organic hemp using vapor extraction, the cleanest and most effective method available. Fewer than 5 percent of all hemp (CBD) brands use vapor extraction because it’s more expensive than ethanol or C02 and as a result, a little richer in flavor too.
Terpene focus. This is one of the key benefits of our vapor extraction method, it preserves the plant’s natural terpenes (think of them as essential oils) providing a higher concentration compared to other brands. We’ll prove it, check out our batch results and compare them with others.
Slow hemp. We believe in learning from those who came before us. We believe in learning from the plants. We believe it’s all a journey. We believe in finding new ways to work that prioritize the planet. We believe in iterative research and product development. Because of this, our go-to-market time for products is slower than most and we’re proud of it. That means we’re giving you the best of the best.
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many (sources indicate there are 100+ cannabinoids that have been identified) cannabinoids created by the hemp plant. CBD is non-psychoactive, thought to be anti-inflammatory, and a beneficial plant ally when it comes to health and well-being.
Cannabinoids are compounds derived from the hemp plant. Our body produces endocannabinoids — fat soluble compounds similar to the ones in hemp. The cannabinoid compounds in hemp are called phytocannabinoids. Scientists have recorded that they believe the role of cannabinoids is to keep the body and its system in balance with respect to the environment.
In our experience, the terms hemp and cannabis are used colloquially to differentiate between psychoactive and non-psychoactive plants. Hemp usually refers to a non-psychoactive plant and cannabis typically features a higher percentage of psychoactive THC.
Scientifically speaking, Cannabis is a genus of plants and indica, sativa, and ruderalis are species. Hemp is one type of sativa plant, so it is technically a type of cannabis. Easy, right?
CBD is not psychoactive, so you won’t experience the “high” feeling typically associated with THC. People who use our hemp oil report feeling grounded, clear, relaxed, and at ease.
Yes! Full-spectrum oils represent a broader spectrum of what makes hemp so special. Isolates, on the other hand, are subjected to further processing of the full-spectrum oil, ultimately removing all hemp compounds except for CBD. Full-spectrum oil takes advantage of the full breath of the hemp plant, so terpenes endemic to the hemp and other cannabinoid compounds are captured and preserved.
It’s the embodiment of our organic whole plant / whole health approach. Highly concentrated hemp terpenes and minor cannabinoids; it sets our full-spectrum oil apart from other brands.
We’re glad you asked, because we are really passionate about them! Terpenes are compounds that occur naturally in plants that give them their signature smell and taste. Hemp has terpenes. Strawberries have terpenes!
In a lot of hemp and CBD production, it is common practice to strip the hemp plant of the majority of its naturally-occurring terpenes and, at the very most, add terpenes from other plants. At Cerena, our vapor extraction process preserves the hemp plant’s natural terpenes in a way that CO2 and ethanol aren't capable. (Yes, this means our extracts taste a little like hemp. We’re proud of that — it means the product resembles the plant from which it came.)
Lab results are tests administered by third parties to measure the purity and potency of our products. We test multiple times, post harvest, post extraction, and during our manufacturing process to ensure that our products are clean, effective, and consistent.
It is best practice to talk to your doctor about CBD and hemp-based products. That said, many of our customers are on other medications and are able to enjoy the benefits of Cerena's product range.
